People disappeared, reappeared, made plans to go somewhere, and then lost each other, searched for each other, found each other a few feet away.

That which is not slightly distorted lacks sensible appeal; from which it follows that irregularity – that is to say, the unexpected, surprise and astonishment, are a essential part and characteristic of beauty.” ― Charles Baudelaire

There’s a fair bit of melancholy tucked into the words, but it’s a melancholy that exemplifies and celebrates, not demeans, the full depth of human existence. Reading it made me feel as if I were floating…

(A book of classic prose poems.  Be sure to read Louise Varese’s translation if you are reading it in English)

a french affair…

One of my most favorite things when I travel is to take photographs of all the wonderful details.  All too often we have photographs of big buildings with little people standing in front of them. Don’t get me wrong, those photos and buildings are great - but sometimes the small things mean so much more.

I’ve decided it would be fun to share with you a few charms from The Ritz Paris in 2008.

I introduce you to the Hemingway Bar.  This bar is all the way way in the back of the Ritz Paris - it is almost hidden.  It was elected, “Best Bar in the World” by Forbes Magazine in 2001.  I couldn’t agree more.  The bartender Colin was not too shabby either - “Colin Field, discreet and gracious, creates beverages that are “perfectly harmonized with your senses, your feelings, your mood…A personalized expression of your desires.”  Sounds pretty wonderful?  It, he, it…he…all of it, it all really was wonderful.

I’ve also decided to throw in sweet French macarons baking in a hot oven.  Mmmm…the smell.   And how funny are these little pully chains featured in every room?  I was tempted to pull them…just as a child is tempted to push all of the buttons on an elevator… but self control, self control. - not the case for the cocktails or the macaroons… :)

Summer Loves

Such a lovely summer collection from Built By Wendy.  I really love the back of the plaid dress.  I have a larger size bum and a smaller waist - and when it comes to skirts in that style, I always have a problem with what to throw on top.  I think the open back of this frock would really do wonders.  Ohh, and the jumper?  Just effortlessly chic, wouldn’t you say?

While it’s a bit on the pricier end, I believe this Soixante Neuf engraved glass locket from Charm and Chain could easily become a family heirloom.  I’d also love to wear it right now!
